The Stanford chapter of Sigma Nu, Beta Chi, was founded in 1891 by Carl Lane Clemans, one of the first Stanford students. The chapter played a pivotal role in the early history of the university, with its members contributing to the legal efforts that saved Stanford from financial collapse.
